RealVNC brings smartphone display mirroring to Panasonics in car system

Panasonics automotive division, also known as the Automotive Systems Company, has just announced a collaboration with RealVNC to replicate your smartphone screen for control on your cars dashboard. The two firms have already worked together on the project for the past year, but have recently stepped it up to include integration of additional technologies like MirrorLink into Panasonics Display-Audio infotainment system. According to RealVNCs press release, the system has "already been adopted by a major automotive manufacturer" and is currently available as a dealer option, though were not sure which automaker that is. This isnt the first time RealVNC has explored its automotive potential -- its partnered with Sony in the past, for example -- but its certainly a sign that the tech is getting more mainstream. Sony Tablet PCs S1 S2 with WiFi 3G 4G Features Launched in India

Sony Corp. announced its plans to join the Tablet PC bandwagon as it looks to cash in the on the rising popularity of the device globally.

The Japanese electronics giants tablet device will run on the Android platform, Kunimasa Suzuki, deputy president of Sony told reporters in Tokyo today.

S1 & S2 Features & Specifications:

The S1 model will feature a 9.4-inch liquid-crystal display (LCD), as well as front and rear cameras. The S2 laptop-shaped model will have dual 5.5-inch screens and feature cameras, Sony said.

Sales of tablet devices are expected to quadruple to about 294 million units between 2011 and 2015, with Android-based products capturing half of the market, according to research firm Gartner.

Sonys rivals, including Samsung, LG, Motorola and HTC have already launched or are in the process of introducing their tablets running on Android operating system.

Canadas Research IN Motion (RIM), which makes the BlackBerry smartphones, recently unveiled its Playbook tablet in the US.

Tablet sales surged to more than 10.3 million units last year from 90,000 in 2009, according to the Consumer Electronics Association.

Apple sold a total of 14.8 million iPads through December 2010, generating US$9.6bn in sales since its introduction in April.

"Sony Tablet", equipped with the latest Android 3.0, will become available in the global market starting in fall 2011.

Both tablets are WiFi and WAN (3G/4G) compatible.

AT T Reports Big Gains in New TV Subscribers but wireless drives AT Ts Q4

AT&T now serves roughly 3 million TV subscribers. In the fourth quarter, AT&T’s revenues from U-Verse services such as TV, high-speed Internet and VoIP totaled $1.3 billion.  

In the fourth quarter, more than 90 percent of AT&T’s U-Verse TV subscribers also purchased high-speed Internet service and 60 percent of the customers also subscribed to U-Verse Voice, the company’s VoIP service. Meanwhile, AT&T said it added 400,000 retail wireless subscribers. Wireless service revenues rose 9.6 percent to $13.8 billion. Net income attributable to the company was $1.1 billion, or $0.18 per diluted share. 

About 90 percent of U-verse TV customers also take U-verse broadband, and about 60 percent take VoIP. AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson said in the companys earnings call that more than 90 percent of the companys iPhone subscribers are under contract, but warned that "it may be rocky in the beginning of the year, volatile and hard to predict" after Verizon Wireless begins selling the iPhone on Feb. 10. 

AT&T activated 4.1 million iPhones in the fourth quarter and 3.3 million other "integrated devices" – cell phones with qwerty keyboards or touchscreens, bringing the companys total integrated device sales to 7.4 million. The net adds included 400,000 postpaid customers, 307,000 prepaid customers, 1.5 million connected devices and 595,000 new customers from resellers.

Data usage drove the eighth consecutive quarter of growth for AT&Ts postpaid ARPU growth, which reached $62.88 in the fourth quarter. Postpaid data ARPU grew nearly 18 percent to $22.64. Wireless data revenue rose 27 percent to $4.9 billion. The company expects sales to increase over the next year.

Google X Phone flagshipp tipped with Motorola in tow

As Google continues it work with now-owned Motorola to bring about a more vanilla (read: Google-only Android) universe, it’s become apparent this afternoon that they may be going full-tilt with a smartphone code-named “X Phone”. This tip comes from the Wall Street Journal where they’ve got an internal leakster saying the marquee handset will be up and ready sooner than later. This development effort has been said to be underway already here in 2012 and will likely be up for action before the end of 2013.


This machine will be “more potent competition” for hero devices such as the iPhone, or so the sources familiar with the matter are saying Google and Motorola hope. Their efforts are “running into some obstacles”, say these same sources, obstacles that relate to manufacturing and supply-chain management. This is of course well within the realm of real possibilities if indeed the X Phone does exist since Google has had only a select few bits of hardware manufactured for themselves in the recent past – growing pains, that is.
This release is said to be being run by former Google product manager Lior Ron who has apparently been asked to push camera and photo software first, with “color saturation and the ability to take panoramic shots” placed as important points. It’s been tipped by these sources that Motorola will be working with technology acquired with Motorola’s recent buy of the Viewdle group earlier this year.
For those of you following along with this story that are finding it slightly difficult to believe: you’re not alone. If you do end up reading the full Wall Street Journal story past their paywall or in the full print magazine, you’ll find yourself perusing a list of elements that are mostly picked from previous events and rumors that do not connect directly to the sources they have here near the end of 2012. In other words: take this all with a big grain of salt.
Google may eventually use Motorola to create a new Nexus device in the future – it wouldn’t be out of the question for them to do so in 2013, not by a long shot. Google hasn’t yet worked with Motorola to create a Nexus smartphone and since Samsung, HTC, and LG have now all had a shot, it only makes sense that Motorola would be next. Expect a Motorola Nexus device in 2013, it only makes common sense.
